i made my rain stick from a toilet paper roll, but i wish i used a paper towel roll instead. the supply list suggests paper towel rolls, but the images will show a toilet paper roll....the directions are the same for both
YOU NEED:
cardboard tube: paper towel roll
a small square of cardboard: like a cereal box
(you can also use egg cups as described in this tutorial)
1 thumbtack: to poke holes
50 nails: i used small picture hanging nails
1/4 cup of rice: or beans or popcorn kernels
1 sheet of paper: i used plain white paper
white glue
paint brushes
paint
ribbons and trims
HOW TO:
use the thumbtack to poke holes along the seam line
about 1/4" apart
and insert nails
it will look like this when you're done
cut 2 circles from your cardboard (cereal box) slightly larger than the tube.
snip around the edge and fold pieces in.
make sure it fits IN to the end of the roll.
you can also use an egg carton as described here
glue one side in place add rice and glue other side in place
trim paper to wrap around the tube with 1/4" extending past the ends.
apply glue to roll and attach paper.
snip ends to fold over and glue in place
cut 2 circles from paper and glue on the ends.
it will look like this when you're done
after it dries you're ready to paint
i gave mine a base coat and added layers of dots, stripes and zig zags.
you could also use glitter or rhinestones or ric rac as embellishments
and add some streamers to the ends made from ribbon or tissue or lace.
use your imagination and have fun :)
