i don't think i've ever told you this,
but my mister is a direct descendant of the Hunkpapa Lakota Sioux.
this same group of tribes was led by Sitting Bull during the mid to late 1800's.
i realize that some people take offense to native american inspired design and feel as though it is doing a disservice to the culture. however, i don't see any difference between taking inspiration from this particular culture than any other culture from around the world or throughout history.
i think design is about reinterpreting inspiration from the past as well as different groups and cultures from around the world. the native american history is so beautiful and fascinating, i think it is important to carry some of the teachings, symbols and motifs into our current times.
that being said, i have found myself very inspired by some of the symbols used by native americans which you will notice in my next collection.
SO i thought it would be fun to take a look at some modern day teepees today.

Hello Lori,
Well...I have been following your blog for the longest time...and this is a post I really needed to comment.
Living in Canada I feel extremely inspired by native culture. I believe there is so much to learn from native people... especially artistically and culturally.
Can't wait to see what you designed!
