remember i have been wanting to embellish
something in my wardrobe to give it a new life for fall?
elsie asked me to come up with a simple fall DIY
for 12 days of tricks and treats leading up to
the grand opening of her new shop
i thought it would be fun to re-style something
i'm sure you already have and give it a new life for the new season.
SO, i have put together a project you can tailor to fit your style and skill level.
➸ STUFF you need:
sweater ❊ felt scraps ❊ glue stick
scissors ❊ embroidery thread ❊ needle
➸ SNIP: cut your felt
select colors that compliment your garment
doodle simple shapes that are easy to cut
cut shapes from felt
➸ STICK: glue in place
decide on arrangement of felt
secure in place with glue stick
i like to arrange the entire design
and then begin gluing one tiny piece at a time
➸ STITCH: time to sew
split floss into 2 or 3 strands
use tiny whip stitch to secure petals and hearts
use contrast thread and a decorative stitch for the leaves
stitch every teeny tiny piece until they are all secured.
♡
That's it...You're done!
Now you have a new fancy favorite
Use your imagintaion and whatever embellishments
you happen to have laying around
the possibilities are endless!

such great question!
it holds up pretty decent. i did a sweatshirt a few years ago that has been washed dozens of times...the felt will start to pill, but you can snip off the fuzz with tiny scissors or a sweater shaver as long as you're careful not to snip your stitching.
however, i would recommend a gentle hand wash or dry clean just to be safe. especially after all that work :)

I just saw this over on Elsie's blog. What an adorable idea! My aunt gave me a sort of old-ladyish cardigan, and this would bring it back to life :)

the thing that's so cool about this project is that it makes ANY sweater better. no matter how frumpy or worn.
