remember this? well, i'm gonna tell you how i did it.
what you need:
bloomin fragrant flowers
dark glass bottles (i used beer bottles)
corks to fit your bottles
vodka (any old kind will do)
rubbing alcohol
wood skewers
distilled water
perfume bottles or atomizers
(i used old tabasco bottles)
to start:
1. gather vodka, beer bottles, corks and skewers
2.clean beer bottles with rubbing alcohol:
pour in a small amount, swish it around and dump it out.
3. snip your blooms in the morning.
gently shake away any dirt or debris.
4. cram into beer bottles
rose geranium is on the left and jasmine on the right
5. fill with vodka and poke with a long skewer
i felt like this helped release the fragrance
6. plug with cork
7. tuck your bottles away in a dark cupboard for about a week
(i let mine sit for 2 weeks)
i also decided to double do my rose geranium
since i used mostly leaves the first time
so i added more blossoms after a week of soaking
anyways while your waiting...think about
what type of container you want for your potions.
i used some old tabasco bottles.
did you know that tabasco was originally bottled in vintage cologne bottles?
that's why i thought they'd be perfect for my new pretty potions.
(i think you should keep them in dark glass so i will have to store these
away from the light unless i paint the bottles or crochet a cozy for them)
8. clean out your selected bottles.
i used boiling water and let them cool before adding the flower water.
i just trimmed off the corner of a plastic baggy to use as a funnel.
make sure the hole is small enough so the blooms won't spill through
a little vodka, a few fancy flowers, a bit of magic and voila!
a pair of pretty potions:)
i love the different tints from the blossoms
i have been mixing it with distilled water in an atomizer
to use as a room and linen spray and it smells AMAZING!!!
i think i need to raid the neighbors yard for lavender and roses.
anyways, have fun and please tell me how yours turns out.
happy hump day.

My 8 year old son spent last weekend crushing all sorts of flowers, stuck them in water, and labeled them. A pretty collection of colorful bottles sits on the back porch. The most striking purple came from orchids past their prime. fun and easy.
