i hope you won't be discouraged by the length of my tutorial.
just in case...here it is in a nutshell.
make bottom~make tube~sew~stuff~insert pet
i'll start with the materials list:
pet
measuring tape
scissors
grocery bag (for pattern)
1 or 2 towels
durable canvas (for bottom)
polyfill (about 20 oz)
*you can also use regular cotton fabric, fleece, flannel, whatever!
i like to use the towels cuz there snuggly and you can find some really great coordinating prints for cheap at the discount stores.i also like them because they are macine washable. you can just stuff the whole darn thing in the washer.
okay, so here we go...
i have grouped the tutorial into 3 parts

onto the next part...

...we're almost there...

so there you have it...one cozy pooch!
it's really very simple, but when you start to analyze every little step it can seem confusing so please let me know if you have any questions
happy sewing.

That is the sweetest. We are fixing to get a dog soon and looking at that sweet face all snuggly in her (his?) bed makes me even more excited!

I bow in reverence to your ability to whip up a dog bed.
I would have an anxiety attack even considering the idea.

Ohwow!! You kind of lost me for a sec when you mentioned the tube part but in the end I shouted a hearty "ahhhhh!" when the realization hit :) I LOVE this tutorial and am impressed at how simple you made something I would NEVER have been able to figure out on my own seem so easy. THANKS!

What a cute dog, and his bed looks very cozy. I've made a bed for my cat - and a tutorial too! A while back though.

Oh my you made it , why am I so surprised, of course you did. I have already had to wash my new one, as Moe thinks he can pee and sleep on the bed, not so bright ???since you have a frenchie and they are notorious for being hard to train , any tricks or advice, Moe is being difficult, loves to poop on register vents ,smell that :)we are trying to take him out often no paper training.FYI , he has no clues that he has to go????
Thanks ,
Chris

This really awesome! I am going to make one for my littlest dog-maybe she'll stop chewing on my blankets!

Thank you thank you thank you! I bought a bed similar to this last year - $65 for a cheap polyester covering! Gah. So this tutorial is GREAT!
I have been collecting old cotton chenille blankets (and cats!) for a while now - I can't WAIT to cut into some of them (blankets, not cats!) to make some spiffy, shabby-chic-ish cat beds to scatter around the house. q
Thanks again! (left cheek) *mwah* (right cheek) *mwah*

I was a little surprised when your 'quickie' directions said to "make bottom~make tube~sew~stuff~insert pet". I was wondering how you inserted the pet into the bottom/tube. lolllll Nice chuckle for a warped mind.
Otherwise, a very good tutorial and pattern. TY.

What a great tutorial! Has anyone made this bed for a medium size dog? Would it still fit in the washing machine?

Thank you for that great tutorial. I think it is the only one on the Web. The three parts with the picture are in my files, now.
You make me happy :-)

THANK YOU for the tutorial! I made this cozy bed for my dog today and she loves it. It was suprisingly easy- I used flannel, with canvas for the bottom. I also blogged about it here- www.vmjess.blogspot.com

Thanks for this wonderful tutorial. I made this bed for my daughter-dog Candy using her favorite fleese blankets. I used left-over quilt batting pieces for the stuffing. She loved it so much that I made another bed for my niece-dog, who also loved it. Thanks again.
